Hundreds of pups filled the streets of Northport on Sunday during the 17th annual Northport Dog Parade.

All were good boys and girls. Over 180 dogs entered with plenty more lining the streets from big to little.

From a doggie kissing booth to puppy pet-icures, the 27th Northport Dog Parade was as fun as ever.

Rick Deering of Northport Public Schools was honored as the grand marshal for 40 years of service to area youths.

Jane and Don Les took home grand champion honors along with best costume with their “Dachodile” - a dachshund crocodile called Walter.

“The main thing is we love our dogs so much. He is a well behaved, gentleman dog. So many other people love their dogs and it makes for a fun event. Dogs like to get together. I think it’s as much for the dogs as for the humans,” Jane said and Don added. “Dachshunds are very comical and the way they are shaped. People get a big kick out of them walking around.”

Hillary Alpers won best dog & adult with her dog Milo rocking an “organ grinder” costume.

Best Circus Family was brought home by John and Val Wuori with their dogs Moses and Klaus as a male and female trainer with two large “lions” on thick chains as leashes.

Sophia Rutila won the best dog and kid combination with her pup Jack.

Liz Sietsema had the best float, while Sloane and Dempsey Schulze won the creative award with their dog Friday in a “Circus gone Wrong” costume.

Charlotte Nen had the best performance with her best friend Gordie “Under the Bog Top featuring Gordie Geno in memory of Ivy Pearl.”

Scott and Catherine Collins had the best concession stand with their dog Moose.

Linda Gits and Rita Biller won best in character with dogs Charlie and Carlito with Carla the cat as an animal handler.

Registration and Sponsorship fees help cover the expenses incurred to make it possible to hold the parade – and most importantly, contribute to local animal shelters and dog care for people who are in need. This year’s beneficiaries include the Cherryland Humane Society, The Fisher Fund, and the Great Lakes Humane Society.
