‘On True Greatness’

To the editor: A recent (unsolicited) Trump MAGA mailing got me to thinking, what is greatness? Foremost seems to be “otherness.” Great people don’t have to tell anyone they’re great. Being “great” isn’t a goal in their life.

A recent (unsolicited) Trump MAGA mailing got me to thinking, what is greatness?

Foremost seems to be “otherness.” Great people don’t have to tell anyone they’re great. Being “great” isn’t a goal in their life. Their first concern is that others’ lives can be bettered through their time, talents and resources. Non-transactional, no lust for personal gain.

I’ve seen this “otherness” in the wonderful support for our non-profit organizations, so important to our Leelanau culture.

Generous donations and volunteer hours given to improve the lives of our community, nontransactional.

In November, building, not declaring greatness will heavily influence my vote.
