Close elections were plentiful Tuesday night as dozens of primaries for various township positions were up in the air.

Incumbent Greg Julian (51.21%) won the Republican nomination for the Kasson Township Supervisor beating township resident Ryan “Buzzy” Noonan (48.79%) by seven votes.

“It was a great night for residents of Kasson Township. Our side had a tremendous amount of support and I’m pleased with the results,” Julian said. “We did well again, getting folks out to vote is big especially during the summertime ... I’m looking forward to wrapping it up 100% (in November).”

Julian will run unopposed in the November election.

Solon Township saw another close race with former Cedar Fire Chief Christopher Comeaux challenging incumbent supervisor James Lautner.

Comeaux garnered 221 votes to 148 for Lautner.

Comeaux pulled 60% from incumbent Lautner.

“I’m really excited to be back in a position to serve the community,” Comeaux said Wednesday morning. “I love Solon Township and only want to see it to reach its full potential.

“I promise I will never let the community down.”

Comeaux will have a clear run at the supervisor position as there is no Democrat challenger.

Jolisa Ugalde defeated Linda Szarkowski in the Leelanau Township treasurer race with 405 votes (66.72%) compared to 202 votes for Szarkowski.

“I feel very confident and very happy with all of the support that I had. I did get nervous,” Ugalde said.
