In a heartfelt tribute to the courage and unwavering dedication of first responders, the Empire area will come together to celebrate these heroes with an afternoon of celebration and recognition on Aug. 3 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Lion’s Club Johnson Park in Empire.

“First responders are the backbone of our community’s safety,” said Rev. Melody Olin, pastor of Empire United Methodist Church, and event organizer. “This celebration is a small token of our immense gratitude for their service, especially during times of crisis.”

Supporters included the Empire Area Community Center and representatives from the Empire Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, St. Philip Neri and Empire Village and Township Council members and Empire United Methodist Church.

Personnel who will be honored at the event include Leelanau County Sheriff’s Department, Benzie County Sheriff’s Department; Glen Lake Fire Department and Emergency Medical Technicians; U.S. Coast Guard, Traverse City; Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park Rangers; and Department of Natural Resources officers.

Empire United Methodist Church is dedicated to supporting first responders and their families.

“We believe in the power of community and the importance of giving back to those who give so much,” Pastor Olin said.
