The Fishtown 5K will be held in Leland on Saturday at 9 a.m. starting and finishing in the heart of Fishtown.
The local run features gradual and graceful descents making the outdoor activity for the serious runner or the whole family.
Runners, walkers, strollers, and leashed dogs are all welcome. Rain or shine, this event will proceed. July 18 is the last day to register online with packet pickup for in-person registrants happening July 19 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Registration can be done in person on July 20 by 8:30 a.m.
Fishtown is a forever project that relies on community and donor support.
The 12th annual Port Oneida Run will take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024, an event of the non-profit park partner Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear. The run starts and ends at the big red barn and lawn area at the Olsen Farm/Port Oneida Farms Heritage Center (3164 W. Harbor Hwy) just four miles north of Glen Arbor.
“It is the only race that winds through the beautiful scenery of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore’s Port Oneida Rural Historic District,” Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear Executive Director Susan Pocklington said in a press release. “With its historic farms and barns, Port Oneida is hailed as one of the most prized historic landscapes in the country and should be on every runner’s bucket list.”
Runners and walkers can choose from four courses this year of various distances. The Half Marathon loops through hilly trails, dirt/gravel roads, and pavement. The cost is $90 through Aug. 1 and $110 on race day. The 10K is a loop combination of trail running, gravel back roads, and pavement. The cost is $60 through Aug. 1 and $75 on race day. The popular Flat and Fast 5K route is out and back on the Heritage Trail and Basch Road in Port Oneida. Strollers and leashed dogs are welcome on the 5K. The cost is $35 through Aug. 1 and $45 on race day.
For kids aged 9-and-under, the Kids Schoolhouse Dash is a quarter mile round trip to the historic Port Oneida schoolhouse and back. Registration is $10 through Aug. 3 and $15 on race day.
All races have a wave start with professional chip timing. Post-race celebrations include race awards and food. Afterwards, participants can take a swim on the beautiful Lake Michigan beaches down the road in Port Oneida. Spectators can bring a blanket and enjoy the festivities.

RUNNING BEAR RUN
The 17th annual Running Bear Run returns on July 23. The race, professional chiptimed, is held rain or shine starting at Cherry Republic on Lake Street in Glen Arbor. Start times are 9 a.m. for the 5K Run/ Walk with the 1/2 Mile Kid’s Run starting at 9:05 a.m. Online registrations will close at 4:00 p.m. on July 22.
The race is sponsored by the Glen Arbor Women’s Club and 90% of the proceeds from our race provide scholarships for Glen Lake School seniors, with the remainder going toward other community charitable organizations.
