A three-year contract with the Suttons Bay Education Association has been adopted by the Suttons Bay Board of Education.

The contract, approved at the board’s June 10 meeting, was made available to the newspaper Monday after all required signatures were secured.

The agreement, which expires on June 30, 2027, sets a salary schedule that is calculated based on education level and longevity. For example, a first year teacher with a bachelor’s degree has a salary of $46,000, according to the new agreement. A master’s degreed teacher in their first year would be compensated $48,300. After 20 years of service, a teacher with a bachelor’s degree would be paid $70,971. Teachers with master’s degrees after 20 years would increase to $74,519.

Schedule B, for extra-curricular assignments, was also part of the contract.

This sets out compensation for teachers based on a percentage of their annual pay.

Coaches for varsity football, basketball and volleyball will receive 11% of their underlying salary.

At the bottom of the schedule are those who serve as advisor to school sanctioned club, who will receive 2% of their compensation.

In addition to school calendars, the contract also states “The board will make reasonable effort, in light of fiscal and facility limitations, to keep the student-teacher ratios as follows: kindergarten, 22; grades 1 and 2, 26; grades 3-4, 27; grade 5, 30.”

A 30-student limit is outlined for grades 6-12, foreign language and art; and 40 for music and physical education.
