Suttons Bay School officials are interviewing candidates this week to fill holes created with the resignation of two administrators: Elementary Principal Shelagh Fehrenbach and Secondary Principal Charles Richards.
The board unanimously accepted the resignations for Fehrenbach which were among five considered Monday night.
Fehrenbach was hired last month for a K-12 principal position at Leland Public School. Fehrenbach, a Leland graduate, joined Suttons Bay in 2020-2021.
Her three daughters will continue attending Suttons Bay, Superintendent Casey Petz said.
Richards, who had been with the district since June 2022, is returning to southwestern Michigan as is his wife, Elizabeth Richards, who served as elementary music and high school choir teacher.
“These are amazing people,” Petz said. “We wish them well.”
Fehrenbach had two years remaining in her contract; Richards, three.
Petz stated that he posted the positions and received “dozens” of applicants, including two inhouse candidates. Interviews were scheduled for Tuesday.
“We have a solid pool of candidates,” Petz said.
The selection will likely come prior to the board’s Aug. 12 meeting.
Other resignations accept by the board were from middle school special education teacher Emily Luck and elementary teacher Jessica Ball.
The board also hired Lauren Franklin as middle school counselor and Leah Borchardt, elementary counselor.
Richard Deering was hired as a substitute bus driver.
