To the editor:
I just read the front-page article “District 1 Commissioner, Kramer Resigns.” I am chagrin that the Enterprise, a usually thorough and accurate publication, messed this one up. You stated that Kramer accused the County Commission, County staff and the Commission Chairperson of all kinds of dastardly offenses.
She may have made these accusations but reporting them without checking the facts and verifying the reality with available authoritative sources is inexcusable. With a simple call to the Board Chairperson or the County attorney you may have found that Kramer resigned because she has moved out of the district and is no longer eligible to represent District 1 in the deliberations and decisions of the Board. Kramer’s “reasons” fade into excuses and post hoc justifications when the facts are clear.
Enterprise, you can do better. Verify each side of a story before publication. You just contributed to the polarization and mudslinging that the Commission and County are working hard to overcome. You can be a force of civility calling out the misbehavior locally that is rampant elsewhere in our culture. We depend on you reporting accurately and thoroughly especially during an election year.
