To the editor:
To my “enemies”: I am afraid the news I’m hearing is very different from the news you’re hearing. I’m afraid you’re listening to lies, and worse, believing lies.
And I’m afraid you’re thinking the same about me. I’m afraid that we’re going to lose our country to extremists. I’m afraid you’re thinking the same thing, just different extremists.
I’m afraid this fear isn’t even registering as fear; I feel it as righteous anger. I’m afraid you do, too.
I wonder: Who benefits from our fear? Who profits from our divisions? I’m tired of being afraid. You too?
What would happen if we met and talked somewhere new, like the radical middle?
What would it be like to stop fear from running the show? What could we building together?
