Leland Public School students will see a new face when they return to classes in September.
“I am thrilled to announce that we have brought on some fantastic educators to joining our team,” Superintendent Stephanie Long said.
The biggest move puts Shelagh Fehrenbach, a Leland alumnus, in the seat of K-12 principal, replacing Kile Charnes, who resigned.
Fehrenbach has worked previously as an elementary and middle school teacher in the Traverse City Area Public Schools.
Most recently, she has served as elementary principal at Suttons Bay Public Schools.
Fehrenbach lives in Suttons Bay with her husband, Jordan, and three daughters. She enjoys traveling, reading, and cooking.
In another administrative change, longtime science teacher Jeremy Peplinski, was appointed assistant principal.
Peplinski has more than 25 years experience teaching high school science, primarily at Leland.
Born and raised in the county, Peplinski graduated from Suttons Bay High School in 1993 and went on to earn an undergraduate degree in chemistry and biology at Central Michigan University. He also earned a master’s degree in school administration at CMU.
Peplinski and his wife, Rachel have been married 22 years and have two children: son, Paul, a Leland graduate, and daughter, Jessie, who will be a 10th grader in the fall.
Beyond academics, Peplinski is an avid outdoorsman and golfer.
Other hirings include Kevin Sams, physical education teacher and Lisa Migazzi, part-time multi-age first/second grade.
