Victor and Denice Goldschmit of Northport are spending their last summer “up north.”
The couple, who has been very active in the community since retiring to the county in 2000, will be moving to Franklin, Tennessee in mid-August to be closer to family.
“We had vacationed in the area since 1964,” Denice said. “So, when we retired, we decided to head north.”
Victor, who was a professor of mechanical engineering at Purdue University, kept busy in his retirement serving on the Leelanau Township Board and Leelanau County Planning Commission.
Denice, who had her own art studio in West Lafayette, Indiana, didn’t miss a beat becoming very active in the Northport Arts Association as an artist and instructor.
“Our daughter and son-in-law encouraged us to move closer to them,” Denice explained.
The couple has another daughter living in Fairmount, Ill. and a son in Georgia. They have five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three stepgrandchildren and two great step great-grandchildren.
The Goldschmidts will host an open house/moving sale, Saturday, July 13, at their home, 14181 N. Cathead Bay Rd., Northport.
Items available include art materials and some estate pieces. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
