‘Forest Kindergarten’ to be offered

The Pathfinder School is now offering “Forest Kindergarten” to the Traverse City area; a program that integrates the wonders of nature with intentional academic learning experiences. This innovative approach not only fosters a love for the outdoors but after the initial year, has also led to remarkable academic achievements among The Pathfinder School kindergarten students.

The academic outcomes from the inaugural year of Forest Kindergarten have been outstanding. Test scores reveal 98% of the class finished the year above grade level in reading, showcasing the program’s effectiveness in fostering early literacy skills, while over half of the students scored in the 90th percentile in math skills.

“The Forest Kindergarten program emphasizes learning through play in a natural setting, allowing children to explore and interact with their environment,” Pathfinder School faculty member and Forest Kindergarten leader Ron Harig said. “Students engage in activities that promote critical thinking, creativity, and social skills, all while immersed in the school’s beautiful 22-acre campus of woods and waterfront.”

Pathfinder is now enrolling for Forest Kindergarten, and all grades preschool-eighth grade, for the upcoming school year.
