Cherry help needed for season

Are you looking for a summer job that puts you in cherry orchards? Then you may want to consider working for the Cherry Industry Administrative Board, which is looking for independent contractors to oversee diversions of red tart cherries out of the marketplace. The CIAB is authorized to restrict the size of cherry harvests to meet demand in an effort to increase prices paid to growers.

The job pays $18 per hour and provides reimbursement for mileage at the federal rate of 67 cents per mile. Contractors oversee compliance in orchards and processing plants in Leelanau and neighboring counties.

Training will be provided at paid workshops held this month, and hours will vary. Applicants must meet deadlines for reporting and maintain instruments used to measure cherry production.

Requirements include access to an adequately insured vehicle, cell phone, computer or tablet and printer.

For further information visit the CIAB website and review the online compliance manual. To apply or for further information, email CIAB executive director Heather Weber at hweber@ cherryboard.org.
