One additional student, who took a “gap” year after graduating in 2023, and two third-year students received scholarships after successfully completing their second year of college courses at NMC.

The Janice F. Freeman Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Tyler Brown. Mrs. Freeman was an active member of the Woman’s Club and chaired the Scholarship Committee for 14 years. The Jeanine Wessinger Dean Honorary Scholarship, created as a special tribute to Jeanine Dean, was awarded to Ella Flores. Mrs. Dean is a former educator who served as the chairperson of the Woman’s Club Art Fair for 10 years.

Other graduating senior awards include scholarships to Wyatt Bruske, Riley Brown, Isaac Bright, Sidney Martin, and Samantha Blough.

Opal Pousho received a scholarship to NMC following her “gap” year. The two third-year scholarships were awarded to 2022 Glen Lake graduates Ava Plamondon and Hayden Shorter.

Since 1980, the Woman’s Club has awarded over $347,000 to 257 students to assist them on their path of higher learning. Funds for the college scholarships come from the profits from the annual Glen Lake Woman’s Club Art Fair, the only fundraiser for the group. This year, the Glen Lake Woman’s Club Art Fair will take place on July 17 at the Glen Arbor Town Hall.

The Glen Lake Woman’s Club was established in 1937 with the mission of fostering social, civic and educational programs. In addition to the annual Art Fair, other Woman’s Club projects include the improvement and beautification of the Chapel and grounds at Old Settlers Park, organization of the community Flag Raising Ceremony at Old Settlers Park (to be held on Thursday, July 4th this year), and a Christmas party for the residents of the Maple Valley Nursing Home in Maple City.
