Over 130 graduates walk this weekend

Graduations this weekend will be full of pomp & circumstance as Glen Lake, Suttons Bay, Leland, Northport, Lake Leelanau St. Mary and Leelanau School all will host their respective graduation ceremonies with over 135 students earning the right to walk across the stage.

The number dropped by nearly 20 from 2023 to 2024 with 156 graduating last year.

The weekend kicks off with Northport and Leland on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Leland will graduate 28, one-less than the previous year.

Five Comet seniors will be taking a gap-year, four will be going into the work-force and military, while 20 will be continuing their education at various universities and colleges.

Leland co-valedictorians are Amabel Schwaiger and Agustin Creamer. Schwaiger will be attending Washington University in Saint Louis where she will study arts and sciences. Creamer will be attending Alma College to study economics as well as playing soccer and track and field for the Scots.

Northport will be having their graduation ceremony at the same time as three Wildcats are expected to walk the stage. Last year, Northport graduated 12 seniors.

Leelanau School in Glen Arbor will be walking nine graduates on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Suttons Bay will be graduating 34 on Sunday with a virtual ceremony scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by the in-person ceremony at 1 p.m.

Suttons Bay seniors Isabel Schmidt and Alexandria Smith are class of 2024 co-valedictorians.

Olivia Craker was named the salutato- rian. Schmidt plans on attending Grand Valley State University to major in writing and Smith plans to get an associate’s degree in culinary arts.

Craker plans to attend Western Michigan University to major in kinetic imaging with a focus in gaming art and a minor in fashion design.

Glen Lake will host its graduation ceremony on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

The Lakers will graduate 46, one-less than in 2023.

Glen Lake will be represented by Valedictorian Dylan Cundiff and Salutatorian Tyler Bixby.

Lake Leelanau St. Mary will be the last to graduate its seniors at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Cousins Della and Sarah Bunek are representing the 2024 class as valedictorian and salutatorian. Fifteen Eagles will be walking the church-stage to move onto the next chapter of their lives.
