Mallory Lowe and Fiona Moord, seniors at Leland Public School, were selected to receive $2,500 STAR Scholarships from the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
They were recommended by P.E.O. Chapter EM and Chapter FI in Suttons Bay.
The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship was established in 2009 to provide scholarships for exceptional women in their final year of high school to attend an accredited postsecondary educational institution in the U.S. or Canada in the next academic year. The competitive STAR Scholarship is for women who exhibit excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service and potential for future success.
Lowe has been on student council, National Honors Society, National Arts Honors Society, the Youth Advisory Council for the Grand Traverse Community Foundation and Social Studies Curriculum Team. She was also a member of the varsity volleyball, basketball and soccer teams. She will be attending the University of Michigan in the fall.
Moord has been on student council, National Honors Society, National Arts Honors Society and World Quest Team. She developed a middle school tutoring program and was on the School Improvement Committee and Principal Hiring Committee and was a member of the Leland volleyball team. She will be attending Haverford College in Pennsylvania.
Chapters EM and FI have been a part of the Suttons Bay Community for many years.
