County Road 614 will soon be completely closed between Alpine Road and Weisler Drive as crews carry out planned culvert work and a road reconstruction of Gallivan Road northeast of Solon Township.
According to a press release from the Leelanau County Road Commission, construction will start May 28, weather permitting. The culvert replacements and road reconstruction are expected to take 28 days to complete, with the project’s estimated end date being June 24.
Road Commission Engineer Craig Brown told the commission earlier this month that six culverts over various creeks on Gallivan Road will be replaced as part of this project.
Brown’s May 21 report to the board also stated that the Crystal River crossing replacements on Co. Rd. 675 are still on track for construction, with “Shoot-the-Tube” crossing to be replaced this fall after Labor Day.
Additional work on Co. Rd. 614 is slated for summer 2024 and 2025 and will be funded through the Rural Task Force program, which provides funding for Michigan counties with populations below 400,000. Co. Rd. 614 picks up at the transition from Cherry Bend Road to Fouch Road in the east and terminates at an intersection with Co. Rd. 616 in the west.
In January, the road commission accepted a proposal from Wade Trim for construction engineering services on the Gallivan Road project for $802,000.
The road commission board of commissioners also met Tuesday and requested reimbursement from the Michigan Department of Transportation in the amount of $10,000 for payments made during the 20232024 fiscal year to licensed professional engineers employed or retained by the commission, in accordance with Act 51 of 1951 in the Michigan Legislature.
