Northport Leader, Feb. 1, 1945

Alden Lackie, son of Walter Lackie, who was a Marine Sergeant in the Philippines Islands previously listed as missing, is now reported dead by the War Department, according to a telegram received last Monday by Mr. Lackie.

Alden Lackie, son of Walter Lackie, who was a Marine Sergeant in the Philippines Islands previously listed as missing, is now reported dead by the War Department, according to a telegram received last Monday by Mr. Lackie. The telegram is as follows: Washington, D. C. January 28, 1945 Walter Lackie Northport, Michigan It has now been officially established from reports received in the War Department that your son Staff Sergeant Alden L. Lackie was killed in action 31 July, 1942 in Mindanao, Philippine Islands.

The Secretary of War extends his deep sympathy. Confirming letter follows.

J A.Ulio Adjutant General. Alden Lackie was an honor student at the local high school and also played basketball for Northport High. He later joined the Marines, transferring to the Air Corps. He became a Master Sergeant and received Air Medal for being one of the group who flew the first mass flight of B-17 to the Philippines in 1940.
