LCN ‘food truck’ making rounds

It’s been awhile, but the Leelanau Christian Neighbor food truck was back one the road. The truck on Sunday morning parked in the parking lot of West Side Community Church, where Mary and Steve Stanton accepted donations of non-perishable and perishable food, plus items of value that can be resold at the Samaritan’s Closet shop in Lake Leelanau.

The truck on Sunday morning parked in the parking lot of West Side Community Church, where Mary and Steve Stanton accepted donations of non-perishable and perishable food, plus items of value that can be resold at the Samaritan’s Closet shop in Lake Leelanau.

“We’re thrilled to have them here,” said Ron Giese, executive pastor at West Side. “We want to make it an annual event. Several of our members help with Leelanau Christian Neighbors, and we’ve heard good things.”

West Side, which stresses community outreach in its ministry, offers services at 9 and 11 a.m.

The Stantons are both faces and leaders of LCN, she as longtime executive director and he as consummate volunteer and board member. Because the needs of people served by LCN have grown immensely in recent years, Mary thought it a good idea to start making “house calls” with the delivery truck.

“I think going to the source makes it easy for parishioners to donate,” she said.

LCN is eager to partner with other groups and businesses in fund raising efforts, Stanton added.

West Side is located in Leelanau County on the north side of M-72 west of Solon Road.
