The Northwest Michigan Invasive Species Network (ISN) announces its 2024 schedule of garlic mustard workbees — volunteer events to treat the invasive plant in three of the northwestern Michigan counties that ISN serves: Benzie, Leelanau, and Manistee counties.
The local workbee will be held Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Clay Cliffs Natural Area, 4755 N. Manitou Trail/M-22 north of Leland.
Garlic mustard grows quickly and forms dense stands, crowding out native species, like trilliums, that also grow early in the season.
The garlic mustard workbees include a two-hour shift pulling the invasive plant and all volunteers are treated to doughnuts. All ages are welcome — please bring water and gloves.
