To the editor:
Sorry to hear Northport still has not seriously considered utilizing its 7th Street property as a site for work-force housing.
Twenty homes, possibly more could be situated on the land which is 6% unbuildable. Water, sewer and power are awaiting, conveniently located potentially cutting costs.
Benefits for this use are numerous. For one, it may well swell Northport Public School which may graduate up to four students this year. Pause should be given and serious discussion occur over the cost of so much benefiting so few. Adding numbers would add justification to continue. Water and sewer costs should drop due to more hookups. Our businesses would have multi aged and multi skilled people to fill job openings. Other benefits are giving energy and variety to our ever increasing older wealthier citizens. I write this on the behalf of our working people and their families who seem to have no voice in the decision. “These people” repair, build, service, and create within our communities. They and their children have earned a chance to enhance what were are so fortunate to have. Please reconsider the use for the property.
