Camera workshop set
The Glen Lake Library in Empire will host a smartphone camera workshop by Wayne Pope on Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m.
Pope will show how to make best use of these handy devices, covering common tools and techniques for both iPhone and Android devices. He is a photography instructor at Lansing Community College, and also a birding enthusiast, having previously shared his wildlife photography at the library.

Group seeks members
The Northwestern Michigan Orchid Society has launched a membership drive.
The group, which includes members from throughout the Grand Traverse Region, will meet at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 5 at the Presbyterian Church, 701 Westminster Rd., Traverse City. A free blooming orchid will be given to the first five persons who join the group. Annual dues are $20.
The event will includes a repotting demonstration and light refreshments.
Chili cook-off benefit
A chili cook-off benefiting the Michigan Parkinson Foundation Traverse City Walk event be held at noon Saturday at the Leland Township in the Munnecke Room of the Leland Library.
Tickets are $15 at the door; $25 for two; children 12 and under eat free.
