Northport Arts Association Figure Drawing Studio announces their biennial Quick Draw Exhibit, a unique show featuring hundreds of sketches from two years of work by the Figure Drawing Studio artists.

An opening reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. May 3 and the exhibit continues in the gallery through May 12.

“We’ve been drawing every Monday night with about 12-15 artists,” said Chris Woomer, who heads the weekly studio.

Northport’s Figure Drawing Studio began in 2019 after Chris’s parents, Bill and Nina Collins donated the Village Arts Building to the Arts community of Northport.

Local models and their houseguests volunteer to sit for portraits and full figure sketches. The evening consists of two 5-minute warm-up poses and then four 20-minute poses, sometimes with the family dog.

“Twenty minutes per pose creates some very interesting art,” said Lisa Westling, a longtime artist attendee.

Northport Arts Association is located at 301 N Mill St., in The Village Arts Building in Northport.

Figure Drawing Studio is free and held every Monday. Poses start at 6:30 and end at 8:30 p.m.

Founded in 2013, Northport Arts Association (NAA) is a 501c3 nonprofit made up of dedicated local members, donors and volunteers supporting artistic expression in Leelanau County.
