The Leelanau Township Community Foundation (LTCF) Board of Trustees approved grants to four organizations in Leelanau County last week.
• New Community Vision, recipient of a $11,909 grant from the General Endowment Fund to assist in the enlistment of professional services for the creation of an initial concept plan and coordination of community outreach for an attainable housing development in Leelanau Township.
• The Leelanau Conservancy was awarded a $10,000 grant from the General Endowment Fund to help replace the stairway at the Lighthouse West Natural Area with a new stone stairway that will allow safer access to the natural area for years to come.
• Northport Area Heritage Association, recipient of a $3,000 grant from the General Endowment Fund to help fund the purchase of two fire-proof filing cabinets to house archival materials.
• Northport Public School was awarded a $945 grant from the Youth Endowment Fund to provide funding for an overnight field trip for middle school students to metro Detroit to visit the Holocaust Center, the Detroit Science Center, and the Detroit Institute of Art.
LTCF recently completed a 3-year re-accreditation process for Community Foundations National Standards. In addition to state and federal regulations for community foundations, the National Standards program requires an extra layer of accountability and provides essential guidance on operations, fund distribution, and community impact.
To receive re-accreditation, LTCF met comprehensive standards around structure and governance, grantmaking, resource development, community engagement, and accountability. Receiving reaccreditation reflects organizational commitment to operational excellence, transparency, and responsible stewardship of funds. LTCF has participated and been in compliance with the program since 2007.
