Salary increases totaling $4,300 were adopted Saturday as part of the 2024-2025 Kasson Township budget.
The township supervisor’s position was increased by $700 to the coming fiscal year, which was included in the proposed budget, bringing compensation for the post to $14,450.
No raises were budgeted for the township clerk and treasurer positions, although salary resolutions were adopted in February. This opened the door for those attending the annual meeting to increase — but not decrease — the salaries for these posts.
Those at the annual meeting recommended raises of $1,800 for both the township clerk and treasurer. This will bring compensation for each post to $19,200 and will result in the addition of $3,600 to the 2024-25 budget, bringing total anticipated expenditures to $494,744.
This will be covered by anticipated revenue of $534,319. State shared revenue of $181,000 represents the largest source of income, other than the township’s extra-voted fire/rescue millage which is expected to come in at $367,000.
The township’s allocated millage will generate $80,600. Other sources include $18,000 from Solid Waste landfill fees and $8,000 from state Metro Act Fund.
On the other side of the ledger, fire and rescue services are the largest single expense for the township, which is part of Cedar Area Fire & Rescue. In the 2024-25 year, the township will contribute $367,000 to the four-township department operated by the Cedar Area Fire & Rescue (CAFR) board. Of this, $301,500 is earmarked for operations; $25,600 for capital outlay and $80,000 for future construction of a centrally-located fire station. Other participating townships include Centerville, Solon and Cleveland Township.
