To the editor:
It was disappointing to say the least of the decision by the Empire Village Board to acquire a $480,000 building for a new Village Office. A new office is indeed needed, but this type of expenditure for what the Village will receive in return is a signifi cant disservice to the taxpayers of Empire. Why is there such secrecy and hurry to complete this transaction? “We have the money”, “we don’t want to be out-bid.” — Yikes.
To make matters more deplorable this property is located near the Village limits. Why not on Front Street where this type of expenditure could help beautify the Village for the benefit of residents & tourists?
To purchase a 912 sq ft building for $480,000 ($526 a sq ft) is mind boggling.
This decision is not in the best interest of the tax payers of Empire and an inappropriate expenditure of taxpayer money.
