Breakfast lovers in Omena and throughout the county can now stop by Knot Just a Bar seven days a week for some tasty morning bites. The restaurant announced in early February that it would begin offering breakfast Monday through Friday instead of just on Sundays, as well as expanding its morning menu.
“There’s really something for everybody on there — whether it’s a made to order omelet or kids items, but we’re really excited about how it really is taking off,” said David Waskiewicz, Knot Just a Bar owner. “Our Sundays have always been kind of popular, and we kind of noticed there was not really anywhere in this neck of the woods doing breakfast.”
Considering how popular breakfast was on Sundays among locals, Waskiewicz said they were already thinking about offering more options this summer. Instead of waiting for summertime, he said they wanted to get started sooner and decided to expand hours and options earlier than expected to see what happens.
The breakfast menu includes Knot favorites like slow roasted corned beef hash, eggs Benedict, and Cajun shrimp and grits, among many other options sure to satisfy anyone’s morning appetite.
“Really it’s been well received and people are attending and coming in. We might have a slow day, but overall during the week, the breakfast has really been a great addition, and we’re getting great feedback from it,” he said. “We made up Omena restaurant week (in February), that’s how we were able to get 100% participation, and we kind of kicked that off by doing breakfast Monday through Friday. Before that, we were opening up at 11:30 a.m. for lunch.”
Waskiewicz’s personal favorite pick on the menu is the egg Benedict varieties, particularly the salmon style, for the combination of the poached egg, hollandaise sauce and salmon together.
“We’re not doing a traditional eggs Benedict with an English muffin, what we came up with is a biscuit type mix, but instead of cooking that into a biscuit, we cooked it like a waffle in the waffle iron,” he said. “So we make a cheddar cheese biscuit waffle, and those little corners of the waffle become the bottom part of the Benedict instead of an English muffin. It’s this cheddar buttermilk biscuit made as a waffle that the Benedict sits on top of and it’s just such a good combination.”
Another part of the menu that’s been popular is the build your own breakfast a la carte option. If someone doesn’t want to come in and have a big breakfast, Waskiewicz said people can pick from sides like eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast for under $10.
“We’re trying to make it so that it fits a lot of peoples budgets,” he said. “One thing that hasn’t really caught on quite yet is on Sunday, we do the kids breakfast for $4… there’s nine things they can choose from and they get to pick three.”
The mimosa bar has surprisingly been a hit, too, with Waskiewicz noting that he thinks the bottomless mimosa will be even more of a go-to item in the summertime.
For upcoming holidays that fall on Sundays like Easter and Mother’s Day, Knot Just a Bar plans to be open for breakfast this year, too. Instead of opening at their usual 11 a.m. time, they will open an hour earlier at 10 a.m. Kids can still take advantage of the $4 breakfast options on these days as well.
“This year we’re really excited because a lot of people are already calling us about Easter and Mother’s Day,” he said. “We’re going to still stick with no reservations because we’ve never taken reservations, so we’re still just going to keep it a casual walk-in, but I think we’re going to have a terrific Easter Sunday breakfast and a terrific Mother’s Day breakfast.”
Breakfast is offered Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the full menu available from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Sunday’s, breakfast is served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the full menu available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Go to https://knotjustabar. com to view the entire menu.
