A Traverse City man has been charged for larceny greater than $20,000.
Ronnie L. Cash of 8772 Lakeview Hills Rd., Traverse City appeared last week in District Court for his arraignment on three charges: Larceny of $20,000 or more; false report of a felony and a habitual offender, second.
On Feb. 22, deputies responded to a Leelanau County home at the request of Cash, who stated a person unknown to him had stolen more than $20,000 from his roommate, who was lodged in the county jail on unrelated charges. Cash and the roommate are the only persons with access to the money, which was kept in his room.
The complaint states that Cash would remove sufficient money from room to pay for monthly bills. Cash claims the money is all gone.
During interviews with Sheriff’s deputies, Cash admitted to taking money in amounts of $300 and $500 separately. He had just purchased a $20,000 truck with cash, according to police reports.
Cash told detectives he was leaving to travel out west. The vehicle was searched and had all of Cash’s personal items in the truck ready to leave.
Larceny of $20,000 or more is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. False report of a felony is a 4-year offense. And a past drug conviction in Pickens County, Georgia, may increase his penalty to one and one-half times the lesser sentence.
