Activities aplenty up north

The Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum (GTLM) is getting ready for its busy season. You can help keep this historic treasure in good shape by buying a commemorative brick to support its preservation initiatives. Go to their website to find out how to purchase a brick. The deadline is April 1.

While on the GTLM website, you can also take a virtual tour of the Lighthouse, and sign up for one of their fascinating Zoom lectures. There are two lectures in March. On Thursday, March 14 at 7 p.m, there is a lecture about the BG Ingraham, and on Thursday, March 21, at 6:30 p.m, the program will be the history of the Leelanau Township Cemetery. You can register on the GTLM website, and get information on the April and May programs.

Other fun and interesting activities in and around Omena are offered by the Northport Arts Association, with its variety of classes, and the Leelanau Township Library, which offers a monthly book discussion group and story time and crafting for kids. More information is available on their websites.

You can always check out the Northport-Omena Calendar website for information on everything going on in Leelanau Township.

Be sure to mark your calendars and get out your green attire for the O’Mena St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 17 at 3 p.m. The parade forms on Isthmus Road starting at 2:30 p.m.

Happy Birthday to Scott Walker, Kathy Schaeffer, Dave Colling, Karen Edgley, and Kate Loveless.

Happy Anniversary to Harold and Kanda McKee.
