The 2024 St. Mary School National Honor Society (NHS) Induction Ceremony took place Tuesday, February 27 as Fr. Ben Martin opened the ceremony with an invocation and blessing.
NHS Chapter President senior Delana Kirt, introduced keynote speaker, Cindy Pleva Weber, a 1985 St. Mary graduate.
Eligible students were invited to apply for consideration and then evaluated on the qualities of Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character; the four foundational pillars of NHS.
Weber shared a message of faith and commented on her life experiences. She asked students to define their own personal pillars of success; focusing on how faith can continue to shape the future. The five 2024 NHS Inductees include sophomores Josh Bunek, Garrick Collins, Madelyn Hamilton, Grace Mitchell and Daisy Serrano.
At St. Mary School, NHS members assist as office aides during lunch, provide tutoring for fellow students, help at the VFW Holiday Store, and participate in other service projects. In addition, the students hold leadership positions in student government and are often called upon to provide assistance to staff. They serve as role models and mentors for the student body.
St. Mary School current NHS Officers are President Kirt, Vice-President Leah Fleis (senior), Secretary Sarah Bunek (senior) and Treasurer James Licht (senior). Members of the NHS Chapter are advised by faculty member, Mrs. Kate Paulsen, Secondary Science.
