Remote Operating Vehicle Workshop
The Glen Lake Library in Empire will host a workshop by the Inland Seas Educational Association on Saturday, March 9 at 11:00 a.m. The ISEA team will provide a brief overview of their Remote Operating Vehicle (ROV) program, used to enable researchers and industry professionals to visually assess underwater areas. Participants will then take part in a hands-on exercise, using problem solving and teamwork to craft a functional ROV. This workshop is open for all, but is ideal for kids in grades 6 through 12 and their parents. Space is limited, so please contact the library in advance to register: 326-5361.
Poetry reading by Scott Mills
The Glen Lake Library will host a poetry reading and conversation with local author Scott Mills on Monday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m. Scott lives and works on the Leelanau Peninsula, as a writer, artist and teacher. During the summer months, he also works on North Manitou Island as part of the Great Lakes Piping Plover Recovery Effort. His poetry and prose explores the natural world and our physical and spiritual connection to it. He has published a number of poetry chapbooks, and also shares a monthly newsletter via his website.
