Compensation increases totaling nearly $30,000 were included in salary resolutions adopted last week by the Glen Arbor Township Board.
As proposed, the township supervisor’s position will be paid $30,255, up from $29,317 last year, a difference of $938, reflecting a cost-of-living adjustment.
But more substantial raises were supported for the clerk and treasurer position.
As proposed for the coming fiscal year which begins April 1, compensation for the clerk’s post will go from $45,680 to $62,000 for 2024-25.
This recommendation was based on COLA and justified by an increase in responsibility due to the additional duties. During the meeting, it was discussed how the clerk has taken on more responsibility due changes in the election law.
The clerk is also the township’s chief financial officer for the Glen Lake Fire Department. During the meeting, Glen Arbor Township Fire Chief Bryan Ferguson vouched for the quality of the clerk’s work and supported her salary increase. Compensation has not kept up with the duties of the clerk over the years.
Compensation for the township treasurer will increase from $29,575 to $42,000. This was supported during the meeting by Trustees Bob Hawley and John Depuy, who remarked on the organization and proficiency the treasurer brings the role.
(Cost-of-living-adjustment) standards were also figured in the salaries for the trustees, which will increase by $129 to $4,146 in 2024-25.
In other business during the regular monthly meeting Feb. 20, the board approved a 20-year lease with American Tower, allowing the company to place cellular equipment.
The tower is located behind the Glen Lake Fire Department and has held a lease since 1997.
