The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners approved several items as part of their consent agenda at their Feb. 20 regular session, including: - Allowing the sheriff’s office to apply for the 2024 Marine Safety Grant through the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to cover a percentage of the costs of the marine safety program. In 2023, the sheriff’s office was awarded $40,100 through the grant.
- A recognition agreement between the county, sheriff’s office, and Michigan Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council recognizing police lieutenants as a separate command bargaining unit for negotiations.
- A subscription amendment with the Traverse City-based computer consultant Safety Net increasing monthly costs by $2,200 due to changes in Information Technology infrastructure.
- A sole source contact request by the county parks and recreation commission to have the Traverse City-based consultant Gosling Czubak Engineering create an update to the 2025-2029 parks plan in an amount not to exceed $15,000.
- The promotion of Interim Planning Director Gail Meyer to planning director, based on her successful interim planning director 60-day assessment of ability and a collective letter of support from the county planning commission.
- A travel request for Meyer to attend the American Planning Association National Conference in Minneapolis on April 12-16 at a cost not to exceed $2,500.
- A contract extension with MGT of America Consulting, LLC, renewing the services for fiscal years 2023 and 2024, increasing the total contract value by $15,000 from $22,500 to $37,500.
- The purchase and installation of 10 Versatec heat pumps through D&W Mechanical in the amount of $112,500.
- A legal contract renewal with Cohl, Stoker, & Toskey, P.C. through 2026.
- Entered into contractual agreements with Safe Haven, Leelanau Christian Neighbors, and Peninsula Housing regarding grants awarded by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians during their recent 2% grant allocation cycle.
